Two Stoke-on-Trent men have been sentenced in court after police found drugs and weapons in a car on the A500.

Layton Bowman, 20, from Blurton, was jailed for two-years-and-six-months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday (7 August) after he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of a bladed article, two counts of criminal damage to property and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B (cannabis).

Liam Hales, 19, also from Blurton, received a deferred sentence for six months after admitting the same.This means that if he continues to offend, or breaks bail conditions, he will be brought back before the court.

PC Jake Barnes, from the Staffordshire Police city proactive team, said: "These two men were brazen in their offending and have rightfully ended up in court.

"We're continuing to work proactively across the city to identify those responsible for these crimes and to take robust action against them."

It comes after Bowman and Hales smashed the rear and front driver-side windows and front windscreen of a Honda Civic parked on a drive in Blurton, in the 15 December last year.

Staffordshire Police said the two men then smashed windows on a property in the same area, using a pellet gun.

At around 11pm on the same day, the two men were in a blue Vauxhall Astra which failed to stop for officers on Uttoxeter Road, Longton.

Police said the car was involved in a "short pursuit" and went on to crash on the A500 entry slip road, near Talke.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers found a large amount of cannabis and scales in the back of the vehicle and a kitchen knife and a hammer in the front passenger footwell.

"A loaded pellet gun was found on the floor outside the car."

Hales, who had been driving, and passenger Bowman were arrested and later charged.
