Firefighters are at the scene of a "large fire" in Stoke-on-Trent, where some residents have been evacuated.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has said that crews are at the scene of a fire in the Goldenhill area.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "A small number of properties and gardens in the Sandy Road area have been affected by fire."

Sandyford Park remains cordoned off by Stoke-on-Trent Police and drivers are urged to follow Staffordshire Police officers's directions and the diversion routes in place.

Goldenhill Community Centre, on Drummond Street, is open to provide support to local residents.

In a statement earlier this evening, a spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently at the scene of a large fire in the Goldenhill area of Stoke-on-Trent.

"A small number of residents from Sandy Road area have been evacuated while crews attend the scene.

"Further evacuations may take place in due course."

The service has urged people to avoid the area and close their windows and doors as a precaution.
