Two men have been arrested in connection with dangerous driving and vehicle theft in Stoke-on-Trent.

Staffordshire Police were called at 11.27pm on Monday (20 February) to Parkhall Road following reports of a stolen white Mercedes Sprinter van ramming another vehicle.

Police learnt that the van had been involved in the ramming of a police vehicle in Derbyshire and had followed it from Fenton.

The van continued to be driven at speed the wrong way down the A50 before offenders attempted to run over an officer.

A police helicopter was sent up to track the van as it collided with a Highways vehicle before continuing on the A50 at Normacot.

One Highways worker sustained a wrist injury following the crash. His injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Officers followed the van as it travelled at speed through Stoke-on-Trent on Monday night (Staffordshire Police).

Police followed the vehicle until it stopped in Heron Cross and the suspects got out of the vehicle and entered a property.

Officers monitored the property and two men were arrested a short time later.

The men, both aged 42, each of no-fixed-address, were arrested at the scene.

One was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop and theft of a vehicle. The other man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.

They remain in police custody while inquiries continue.
