Parts of the Trentham Estate have closed this afternoon as strong winds hit Stoke-on-Trent.

The Trentham Estate has temporarily closed some areas including the south entrance, lakeside walk, lakeside café and adventure playground while the shopping village and Italian Gardens remain open.

Meanwhile, the National Grid was notified of power cuts in Longton, Loggerheads and Barlaston this morning and engineers expect power will be restored to properties by 2pm.

According to the Met Office, gusts of over 40mph are expected for much of the afternoon but winds will start to drop after 4pm.

An update from Trentham Estate on Facebook said: "Due to high winds, certain areas of the gardens and estate at Trentham will be closed today to ensure everyone's safety.

"We are closely monitoring the wind against the forecast, and will update further on our social media and website when these areas are open.

"We will be re-opening the site this afternoon, once site checks have taken place. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding."

The closed areas currently include the lakeside walk, lakeside café, woodland, wider estate, adventure playground, south entrance, and the western and eastern pleasure grounds.
