Motorists are being warned to plan extra time for journeys in and out of the Eaton Park estate due to vital roadworks.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Arbourfield Drive while the bridge over the former railway line is resurfaced.

Contractors working for Stoke-on-Trent City Council plan to start work on Monday 24 June and estimate it will take ten weeks.

They will close one lane at a time to keep the road open to traffic. But motorists should expect delays to their journeys due to the road being the only route in and out of Eaton Park.

Pedestrians can cross the bridge as one of the footpaths across the bridge will always be open.

Council staff have visited Eaton Park Academy to help teachers encourage parents to walk their children to school.

A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "It is going to cause disruption but we've chosen this start date so the bulk of the work can be done during the school summer holidays.

"But due to the way Eaton Park was built, Arbourfield Drive is the only road motorists can use so it is going to mean delays for some journeys.

"This work is part of our essential planned maintenance programme and needs to be done. We are doing everything we can do in advance to inform residents and businesses.

"The area does get busier doing the morning and afternoon school runs so we'd advise other motorists to try and avoid these times. Motorists are being asked for their patience and understanding during this time and to plan journeys in advance."
