A teenage boy has died and two people have been arrested following a hit-and-run in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police were called to Dawlish Drive, Bentilee, at about 6.05pm on Friday 17 October following reports of a crash.

The driver of the car did not stay at the scene and drove off after it happened.

Dawlish Drive, Wellfield Road and Bargrave Street were all closed while paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service worked at the scene.

The teenage boy, aged 17, was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he died in the early hours of Saturday morning (18 October).

His family are being supported by specialist officers.

"Detectives and staff have been working hard since the collision happened to track down the driver and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision," a Staffordshire Police statement said.

"Two boys, aged 17 and 16 from Stoke-on-Trent, have both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in custody.

"We're keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or those with any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time. Call 101 or use Live Chat on our website, quoting incident 604 of 17 October."
