Take a look inside The Pavilion Tea Room opening today in Burslem Park

By Jordan Edwards 15th Feb 2025

A new tea room opened today in one of Stoke-on-Trent's most popular parks with community activities, homemade food and cakes planned for visitors.

The Pavilion Tea Room in Burslem Park will also house the Burslem Community Hub which will be hosting community activities.

The tea room will be serving tea and coffee, oatcakes, cooked breakfasts, and a range of lunch options including burgers, sandwiches and baked potatoes from Sunday 16 February.

Owner and manager Emma Smith has been busy preparing the venue with her brother William and husband David to get everything ready to welcome visitors this weekend.

Cllr Lyn Sharpe, the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, officially opened the tea room. (Nub News)

At the opening event on Saturday, Emma Smith said : "I was here until 8pm last night getting it all ready for today.

"It feels like there's a lot of really good feeling about the space reopening from speaking to people.

"We got the keys at the beginning of January so we have just been getting everything ready, decorating and cleaning - it's been non-stop.

"We will be doing a lot of community stuff here and the response so far has been really positive, the public seem to be really interested in what's going on."

The previous business at the pavilion, Café Indi, closed in May last year due to 'unprecedented' challenges in relation to the cost of living crisis and issues surrounding the lease of the historic building from Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Cllr Glen Watson said: "Just looking around what has been done with the cafe, it looks absolutely incredible, it's clearly a labour of love and they've done a really good job of making it look fantastic and as an amenity I think it is really important to residents.

"It's a really popular park and since we saw the cafe close its doors a few months ago it has lacked this crucial amenity."
