Six footpaths to be closed to make way for new Stoke-on-Trent school
Six footpaths are set to be closed and two others diverted as part of the development of a new high school for Stoke-on-Trent.
The Florence MacWilliams Academy is earmarked for land previously part of Longton High School and the former Meir Sports and Social Club.
Stoke-on-Trent CIty Council granted planning permission for the school to be built at the end of 2023. But a further meeting has now taken place to deal with the future of a number of footpaths on the land at Weston Road in Meir.
Plans revealed to transform historic Stoke-on-Trent pub into retail unit and flats
A historic pub in Stoke-on-Trent could be transformed into a retail unit and assisted living flats, if plans are approved by the city council.
A planning application has been submitted for The Leopard, Burslem, which seeks permission for "change of use to one retail unit and 17 dwellings with ancillary communal space and associated external and internal alterations".
The Leopard Inn, on Market Place, was last used as a public house that spanned nearly 300 years in service and historically also provided accommodation in the hotel extension.
Former Stoke-on-Trent betting shop could become new restaurant
A former betting shop in Stoke-on-Trent could become a new restaurant, if plans are approved by the city council.
Mr P Sargeant has applied for permission to change the use of the ground floor of 376 Blurton Road, Blurton, from a betting shop to a restaurant.
The unit, which was previously occupied by Coral, currently has six parking spaces and no changes to this are planned.
Stoke-on-Trent convenience store to be taken over by independent operator
A popular convenience store in Stoke-on-Trent is set to be taken over by an independent operator next month.
Co-op confirmed to Nub News that its branch on Weston Road, Meir, is being sold and will be taken over by an independent retailer trading as a Nisa store.
A spokesperson for Co-op said: "Co-op regularly reviews its stores and the decision to sell any store is only taken after careful consideration.
"Our Meir store is being sold, and a key priority has been to safeguard local jobs."
Busy Stoke-on-Trent road to be reopened 'as a matter of urgency'
A section of a busy road in Stoke-on-Trent which has been closed since April is set to be reopened 'as a matter of urgency'.
Specialist engineers brought in by Stoke-on-Trent City Council have now been given the go-ahead to stabilise the fire-hit buildings on Newcastle Street, Middleport.
The council has engaged specialist engineers to see if it could avoid demolishing the building and instead undertake emergency works to make the building safe - so that at least one lane of the road can be reopened as soon as possible.
