Stoke-on-Trent has been revealed as the sixth cheapest place for fish and chips in the UK by research from WDW Bingo.
The data, collected in May using Just Eat and menus from fish and chip shop websites, shows which UK towns and cities had the cheapest average price for a portion of fish and chips, with Manchester topping the list with an average of £8.94 per portion.
Stoke-on-Trent came sixth with a standard portion of fish (cod) and chips costing an average of £9.88.
This made Stoke-on-Trent one of only seven locations which offered a portion of fish and chips for under £10 on average.
Here is the full list of the 10 cheapest places for fish and chips in the UK:
- Manchester: £8.94
- Walsall: £9.17
- Dundee: £9.47
- Derby: £9.70
- Bradford: £9.87
- Stoke-on-Trent: £9.88
- Huddersfield: £9.92
- Coventry: £10.16
- Bolton: £10.35
- Glasgow: £10.37
Harrison Score, Head of WDW Bingo, said: "The data shows that the North dominates the top 10 cheap eat locations for this iconic dish.
"It's also interesting that no seaside towns make the cut for cheaper chippys."
The researchers analysed 53 locations in total and did not include prices for pubs, restaurants or takeaways.
