A Stoke-on-Trent man whose creations have been seen and loved by fans across the world has unveiled a build of the Stoke-on-Trent Centenary logo replicated in Lego.

Neil Walker from Sneyd Green, who is known on social media as StokieLEGO, has used 4,000 Lego pieces for the creation and has spent over 70 hours on the build over the last three weeks.

Neil has since received over 25,000 bricks for the project from people across the city, with extra bricks not used in the project donated to local Samaritans' charity shops.

The Lego creation is now on display at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, in Hanley, alongside the "A Century of Collecting" Centenary exhibition at the museum.

Neil told Stoke Nub News: "There have been a lot of changes from the original build to how it is now and probably the biggest challenge has been with the dark blue brick as it's quite rare.

"Up until this morning I was still making alterations and I have been absolutely gobsmacked with the response on social media."

The full project started around three months ago after one of Neil's former workmates at Stoke-on-Trent City Council persuaded him to take on the creative project for the city's centenary year celebrations.

Becky Smith, a designer at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, created the celebratory logo and helped Neil by checking each stage of his build to make sure the proportions and sizes were right.

Neil added: "It wouldn't have been possible without everyone's help so Its almost been like a community project in the end.

"I've not done many mock builds in the past and it has been a real challenge but it has given me an incentive to do more and be more creative.

"Just to see the people who have come down today to see the unveiling of the work - I totally didn't expect it and I'm a bit shocked."

Deputy Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Steve Watkins, said: "As soon as Neil announced his plans, I said I couldn't wait to see it with my own eyes.

"It's a wonderful gesture to donate his time and talent for others to enjoy – and a great reminder of how something as simple as LEGO can bring joy to all ages.

"LEGO encourages creativity, patience and problem-solving. I hope this display inspires young visitors to build their own ideas and reminds grown-ups that you're never too old to play."
