Train staff working at rail operator CrossCountry have called off strike action on Saturday 6 December.

It means that services will be running as normal, however there may be some short-notice cancellations as the operator works to reinstate services.

The operator runs trains on the busy Birmingham to Manchester route which includes Stoke-on-Trent, with Saturday 6th expected to be a particularly busy day.

The strikes were being organised by the RMT union (the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).

CrossCountry's Managing Director, Shiona Rolfe, said: "We are pleased that RMT has called off planned strike action throughout December, and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board to take them into the festive season.

"We aim to run our normal timetable on Saturday, but the short time available to reinstate services means there may be some short-notice cancellations.

"Engineering work on parts of the network will still mean some changes to journeys – if you're planning to travel, please check your journey before setting off."
