A man who assaulted a woman and threatened her with a knife in Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed.
Layton Bowman, 20, of Blurton, was sentenced to three months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (20 October).
Bowman assaulted the survivor, strangled her, and threatened her with a knife on Saturday 10 May.
The next day, when Bowman was arrested, cannabis was found in his possession and he spat at a police officer. He also damaged a police cell after being taken into custody.
He pleaded guilty to:
- Assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm
- Intentional strangulation
- Threatening a person with an offensive weapon / bladed article / corrosive substance in a private place
- Common assault
- Assault by beating of an emergency worker
- Possession of a controlled drug of class B – cannabis
- Two counts of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.
Sergeant Mick Johnson, from the Stoke-on-Trent north local policing team, said: "I am delighted that we were able to secure evidence against Bowman and convict him for his offending.
"I would like to commend the bravery of the survivor in this case for coming forward and assisting us with our investigation.
"I hope this conviction shows that we are committed to taking robust action against those who commit violence crimes in Stoke-on-Trent and wider Staffordshire."
