A Stoke-on-Trent man has been jailed after he admitted child sex offences.

Shaun Mitchell, 29, from Trent Vale, was sentenced to three-years-and-four-months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday (17 April).

He admitted six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl and two counts of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity at an earlier hearing.

Detective Constable Jacob Thackstone, from the Staffordshire Police public protection unit, led the investigation.

He said: "I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in coming forward and telling us what had happened to her.

"I hope this sentencing shows that all reports of sexual offences, whether they are recent or historical, are taken seriously and we will take robust action against those responsible."

It comes after the victim reported Mitchell to Staffordshire Police in 2024.

Mitchell was arrested and answered 'no comment' to all questions asked in custody but later admitted the offences in court.
