A Stoke-on-Trent man has been jailed after he stole a car during a burglary in Wilmslow.

Naglis Kisielius appeared at Chester Crown Court today (Friday 27 March) where he was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

The 23-year-old of Almond Grove, Hollybush, had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of burglary dwelling and theft, one count of theft and one count of dangerous driving.

 In addition to his custodial sentence, he was also ordered to pay £187 costs.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Laura Fox, of Macclesfield Proactive CID said: "Burglary is a horrific offence, and we're committed to using all the resources available to us to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

"The cross-border relationship between Cheshire Police and Staffordshire Police was instrumental in this case and I hope that the sentence handed to Kisielius will provide some closure to the victim and also provide reassurance to the local community.

"I also hope that the case acts as a warning to anyone else who is thinking about coming to Cheshire to commit crime."

The court heard how at around 2.30am on Wednesday 18 February 2026, Cheshire Police was called by a resident on Torkington Road in Wilmslow.

The caller, who was away at the time of the incident, reported that they had been alerted to activity outside their address by their doorbell CCTV system. 

The footage showed an unknown person outside the property who was stealing a BMW X5.

Officers were then deployed to the scene and patrols across the county were alerted to the stolen car. ANPR and tracker data showed the car travelling towards Staffordshire.

At around 3.53am the vehicle was spotted travelling on Farnborough Drive in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but Cheshire Police explained that the driver failed to stop and made off reaching speeds of up to 100mph.

The vehicle was found abandoned on Franklin Drive a short time later.

The police helicopter was called to the scene and Kisielius was discovered hiding in the rear garden of a nearby property and arrested.

Officers also located the keys to the stolen car nearby that had been taken during the burglary.

Kisielius answered no comment to all the questions put to him by officers, but despite his silence he was later charged in relation to the incident.
