A man has been jailed for more than five years after he "drove a car at another man" in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Andrew Paul Whalley, of Nantwich, was jailed for five-years-and-four-months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (23 March), after he admitted section 18 – wounding with intent, affray and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
Sergeant Gail Tolley, of the Stoke South local policing team, said: "Whalley subjected his victim to a spontaneous and violent attack which has left him with long-lasting injuries.
"We worked tirelessly to gather evidence against Whalley and I am glad he has now been jailed for his actions."
It comes after a fight broke out between 34-year-old Whalley and another man in April 2024.
The fight broke out inside a shop on High Street, Talke Pits, before spilling out onto the street.
Staffordshire Police explained that five minutes after Whalley left the scene, he drove a blue Vauxhall "at speed" onto the pavement, where the man he had been fighting with was standing.
The victim suffered serious injuries.
Whalley then got out of the car and chased the victim around cars parked along the street.
When Whalley was arrested, he claimed that the victim had jumped in front of the car to stop him but then answered 'no comment' to all questioned asked in custody.
