A Stoke-on-Trent man, who abused his partner including strangling her multiple times, has been jailed.
Owen Meredith, 27, of Hanley, was sentenced to two-years-and-one-month in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday 23 January.
He admitted two counts of engaging in controlling / coercive behaviour, three counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, three counts of intentional strangulation and one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.
Sergeant Georgia Hughes, from the Newcastle-under-Lyme local policing team, said: "Meredith's actions were both physically and emotionally damaging to the victim, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and trying to seek help.
"We are determined to support victims of domestic abuse and to bring perpetrators to justice for their incredibly damaging crimes."
Staffordshire Police explained that the victim came forward in November 2022 after Meredith had strangled her on numerous occasions and punched her.
He was arrested and questioned in custody. When he was released, he tried logging into her social media accounts, emailed her and sent her two personalised cards.
Meredith was taken to court, after evidence needed to charge him was secured and he has now been jailed and served with an indefinite restraining order, stopping him from contacting the victim.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "If you have suffered or are suffering from domestic abuse, please get in touch with us by calling 101 or using Live Chat on our website.
"In an emergency, always ring 999."
