A Stoke-on-Trent GP surgery has been described as "exceptional" for helping patients access care – and staff were praised for their kindness and compassion by inspectors.

Patient satisfaction was found to be "higher or significantly higher" than national averages at Dr P D Miles' GP practice, based at Meir Primary Care Centre.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published its latest assessment report on the service, provided by Dr Raju and Partners, at Weston Road, Meir. It was rated good across all areas.

The report, published earlier this month, said: "Staff kept facilities clean and maintained equipment appropriately to ensure people were kept safe."

The report added: "There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience.

"Staff supported people to live healthier lives, monitoring their care and treatment to ensure they received positive and consistent outcomes. Staff were exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion, and respected their privacy and dignity.

"The service was exceptional at supporting people to access care, treatment and support when they needed it. Leaders and staff were alert to discrimination and inequality that could disadvantage groups of people who used the service and sought ways to address any barriers.

"The service had a clear vision and strategy, which considered the needs of the people who used their service and the wider community. Staff understood their individual roles and responsibilities (and) leaders accounted for the actions, behaviours and performance of staff through clear and effective governance processes."

"The practice delivers services to more than 4,100 people. The CQC reviewed patient feedback as part of its assessment.

The report said: "People were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care, describing staff as friendly, respectful, efficient, helpful, kind, understanding, and compassionate. These findings were mirrored in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey.

"Across the seven indicators we reviewed, patient satisfaction was higher or significantly higher than national averages. For example, 99% of respondents rated their overall experience of the GP practice positively, significantly exceeding the national average of 75%.

"The practice had an active Patient Participation Group (PPG) that represented the views of people using the service. A PPG representative reported feeling valued by the practice and highlighted their collaborative work on community events such as vaccination sessions and well-person clinics."
