Stoke man charged after refuse collectors assaulted in Birches Head

A man has been charged after a number of refuse collectors were assaulted in Birches Head, Stoke-on-Trent, last Tuesday (21 March).

Joe Junior Paul Cordon, 27, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with wounding with intent, two counts of assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and two counts of criminal damage.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital by ambulance with head and facial injuries. He has since been discharged. 

The victim was working as a bin man at the time and was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries (West Midlands Ambulance Service).

Cordon was arrested in Suffolk on Friday (24 March) afternoon on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Monday 27 March).
