A couple plagued by 'mould' are living with just one working downstairs socket – with extension leads trailing along the floor.
Constantin and Sanda Chirila have lived in the Stoke property for the past five years.
But Sanda has been struck down with cancer, they say irreplaceable family pictures and heirlooms have been damaged, and the couple are pleading for help. They want to move from their £460-a-month privately-rented property.
Constantin, aged 50, said: "I've had to swap the mattress because of how bad the mould is, I've put everything in the bin. We have been asking for the boiler to be changed for years and nothing had been done. It was only when we contacted the council that the landlord came out and changed it."
But Constantin fears he will struggle to find a replacement property because of his nine pets.
He added: "After my wife has her operation it's not possible to live in this house any more but who would let me live somewhere with all the animals. I can't leave the animals."
The LDRS has approached the property agent for comment and is still awaiting a statement.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has visited the property following a complaint.
A council spokesman said: "We can confirm that there is an ongoing enquiry regarding this property and an inspection has been carried out."
