Staffordshire's Chief Fire Officer has expressed his "sincere thanks" to the county's firefighters following a summer of "unprecedented demand".

Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj has thanked staff at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service after crews were called to more than 600 outdoor fires in August.

According to the fire service, this is almost double the number of outdoor fires that crews were called to in August 2025.

Firefighters also attended a number of "significant incidents" last month.

On 13 August, crews tackled a large fire in Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent, following which, six firefighters were admitted to hospital due to suffering smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one of those firefighters was discharged from hospital only last week after spending time in critical care.

Around 15 crews also worked to extinguish a large fire on Cannock Chase which started on 5 August.

Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj, said: "I want to publicly express my sincere thanks to all of our firefighters, control staff and support staff for all of their fantastic actions dealing with this summer's unprecedented demand.
