VE Day celebrated at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme

Celebration is in the air in Newcastle-under-Lyme this week as dementia specialist Belong, marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day).
Residents, tenants, families and colleagues at the Lower Street care village got together for a special 'indoor street party' in the Belong Heritage Gallery, featuring cakes and biscuits using authentic wartime recipes.
Newcastle-under-Lyme deputy mayor, Cllr Robert Bettley-Smith also joined everyone at Lower Street care village to enjoy the festivities.

Belong is a not-for-profit organisation, operating care villages with a range of housing and support options for older people, as well as extensive amenities in the village centre.
Emma Palin, experience and heritage coordinator at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, said: "We spent the day enjoying each other's company.
"The Second World War was such a significant period in our customers' lives and we are pleased to honour this incredible generation who fought for our country and sacrificed so much for us."

Belong specialises in supporting people with dementia and nursing care is provided across the village.
All employees are trained in dementia awareness, from housekeeping teams through to bistro assistants, and the organisation also employs specialist Admiral Nurses in conjunction with Dementia UK, who work with families and our workforce to equip people with the skills and understanding to better support people with dementia.
