Belong at Home is an award-winning care service available in and around Newcastle-under-Lyme which allows customers to maintain their independence whilst receiving high-quality care in their own home.
It is commonly known as community care or domiciliary care.
Belong at Home, based at Belong's Lower Street care village, currently has around 30 customers, cared for by around 14 professional and caring members of staff.
Team Leader, Jane Furze, has worked in care for over nine years now and began working at Belong around twelve months ago.
She told Nub News: "I'm just working on my NVQ Level 5 with Belong and what I've noticed working here is the amount of opportunities you're given.
"Some of our carers may have other jobs or be studying but we ensure they have comprehensive dementia and first aid training as well as access to NVQs and care certificates – the training, to me, is second to none."
Belong at Home provides a whole range of services, whether that is taking the customer to appointments, supporting with cleaning and domestic duties, personal care and medication, shopping, or simply just providing companionship.
The team can also organise transportation to the village for its day care service, known as Experience Days, where customers spend a day enjoying activities including crafts, exercise, and lunch in the onsite bistro, which provides opportunities to make friends.
Jane continued: "All of our customers are predominately in the Newcastle area (although we are hoping to expand into Trentham). When a new customer approaches us, we visit them to assess their needs, which includes asking them and their families how we can help. It's about enabling them to continue to live their lives as independently as possible by assisting them with whatever they need.
"With every customer, there is ongoing communication. Our support workers are brilliant in that if they notice any changes in their customers, they will always communicate them to the family, which is paramount – transparency is crucial.
"Equally, we help our colleagues as we want the carers to be happy, so they do their best for our customers. For example, we are flexible in our appointment planning to ensure they have a convenient route, whilst paying them for their time between customer visits – something uncommon amongst home care providers. Everyone works as a team. I wouldn't expect anyone to do anything I wouldn't do, and they can always pick up the phone, day or night, if they need advice to support them in their job."
Belong at Home also work closely with the Belong in-house care and experience teams because, as Jane says, "At the end of the day Belong is such a good community. Everyone is our customer and we're all there for each other."
Customer testimonials are a credit to Belong's work, for example Phillip D recently said: "The Belong at Home service has been essential in helping Mum and Dad to remain in their home. Without the excellent support, I'm sure that they would have had to go into residential care".
Another family member wrote: "Dad looks forward to seeing the carers and we can now go back to being his daughters and spending quality time with him as carers have taken away the need for us to look after him on a daily basis".
Belong at Home is the UK's Top ranked home care provider on homecare.co.uk based on customer reviews and all the services are rated Outstanding or Good by the Care Quality Commission.
