A North Staffordshire based building society has won the award for Best SME People Management at this year's CIPD People Management Awards.

Leek Building Society, which has branches in Hanley and Newcastle, received this award and was also named as a finalist for Employee Experience at the ceremony hosted at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London in September.

Lizzie Hall, HR Director at Leek Building Society, said: "Our building society is a special place to work.

"Winning the Best SME People Management award and being named as a finalist for Employee Experience proudly showcases our dedicated and talented HR team.

"Importantly, it reflects our culture and purpose: helping our colleagues grow so they can do great things today – and even better things tomorrow."

The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) People Management Awards are recognised as the benchmark of excellence in HR, Learning & Development and Organisational Development.

This year's event welcomed over 800 people to celebrate innovation, creativity and the very best in people management.

A spokesperson for Leek Building Society said: "We're proud to have created an environment where colleagues feel valued, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential.

"This award is a proud moment for our Society - a success we'd like to share with our communities.

"From wellbeing and inclusion to career development and giving back to Leek and our surrounding areas, everything we do is rooted in helping our colleagues grow so they can do great things today – and even better things tomorrow."

"Because when our colleagues thrive, so do our members, customers and communities."
