Six weeks of roadworks start next week at 'problematic' Stoke-on-Trent junction

Roadworks will begin next week to install "major new safety features" at a junction in Stoke-on-Trent with the aim of protecting pedestrians and providing better links to public transport.
The junction at Park Hall Road and Weston Road, in Weston Coyney, will get three new pedestrian refuge points as well as a new footpath linking to existing bus stops, and access to Park Hall Country Park.
The four-way temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday 9 June and the works will last for nearly six weeks.
The safety upgrade comes in response to residents' concerns and follows a number of incidents - including the tragic death of a pedestrian in December 2023.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has warned there will be disruption for drivers but businesses in the area will be operating as usual.
Cllr Finlay Gordon-McCusker, cabinet member for infrastructure, regeneration and transport at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "This junction has been problematic for some time, and I made it a priority to get this sorted.

"There have been a high number of near misses and incidents, including the tragic death of a local resident, who died just yards from his home on a walk he had been doing for a many years.
"I hear frequently from local people about how unsafe the junction is, and I have been to see for myself on a number of occasions.
"We have listened to residents and made taking action at this junction a priority.
"This is a busy junction and we appreciate there will be some disruption while this vital work is carried out.
"We thank motorists for their patience, but trust everyone will recognise the benefits of this work in creating a safer Stoke-on-Trent."
