Six fire crews are tackling a building fire in Burslem this evening (27 April).

The scene, around the vacant Grade-II listed Hill Works building on Westport Road, is taped off while Staffordshire Fire and Rescue work to extinguish the blaze.

The fire service is currently focusing its efforts on the roof space of the building. The smoke from the fire could be seen from miles around in Burslem and Tunstall at dusk.

The building is also known as the Wade Heath works and previously occupied by Wade Ceramics until 2010.

Officers from Staffordshire Police are also at the scene.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We currently have six crews in attendance at a large fire on Westport Road, Burslem.

"Please avoid this area whilst we deal with this incident."
