Residents and motorists alike are sick of a pothole that has opened up in Stoke-on-Trent and residents say it is an 'accident waiting to happen'.

The pothole, which has been there since April, is keeping residents awake at night and shaking houses.

Frederick Avenue in Penkhull is where the crater sized hole has opened up. Residents first reported the pothole in April, since then workers have marked the pothole, however no repair has taken place.

More recently residents have taken matters into their own hands and graffitied the pothole with 'fill my' with an arrow pointing towards the hole. Some residents have also considered taking matters into their own hands and filling it in themselves.

Reports of houses vibrating when cars are hitting the pothole are not uncommon and others said they can hear cars throughout the night hitting it or braking sharply to miss it. Ian Clifford said: "Lorries will come up here and they are probably doing 30 miles per hour or so, even 40 sometimes and you can just hear the whole thing shake and the load lift.

The pothole is keeping residents awake at night and causing houses to shake (LDRS).

"It's been there for a while, you regularly hear traffic going up the road, lorries in particular at night when people don't see it and you hear the crash and bang, you are constantly waiting for someone's wheel to come off and go into one of the cars parked along here. It is an accident waiting to happen.

Due to the nature of the pothole and the fact that many residents park on both sides of the road the pothole is very hard to drive around, which means many drive through it. This is a problem for Rob Emery who has to drive through the pothole to access his property.

Mr Emery said: "I reported it in April and they came out and painted some red lines around it in May or June and then that's it, it's been a long time. In previous years when I've reported them they do generally get done.

"You hear them all night, people going over it or either the sounds of people slowing down to avoid it. But because of where it is located it is very difficult to manoeuvre around it.

Penkhull resident, Andy Polshaw said: "I logged it in April and in May they said, yeah that's logged and we'll get it done and it's not been done. I thought it would have been done now because usually when I've logged it before it usually gets done in a month but not this time.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been contacted for a statement.
