A major upgrade to the bus network across Stoke-on-Trent is set to go live at the end of January.

Throughout the city at bus stops new electronic signs have been installed which will display real time information.

In total 96 real time information boards have been installed and now data is being uploaded and tests being made to ensure accurate information will be displayed.

Currently the boards display the message: "Coming soon: Real-Time Bus Information. Once testing is completed in a few weeks, live departure times and service updates will be available right here."

The project forms part of the wider bus service improvement plan which is a legal partnership between the council and local bus companies.

In 2022 the government awarded £31 million to develop and deliver the plan.

The scheme aims for shorter journey times, more frequent buses, more buses in evenings and a review of fares. Already part of the funding has been used for cheaper fares and junction improvements.

Council bosses hope that the latest improvements provides passengers with confidence to use the bus network

A Stoke-on-Trent City Council spokesperson said: "We are currently working with First Potteries and other local bus operators to test and fine tune their bus journey system data, which will be used on the real time information boards as well as the system supplier Journeo.

"Good progress has been made and all 96 RTI boards are set to go live by the end of the month."
