Problem tenant evicted after years of complaints from neighbours in Stoke-on-Trent

A problem tenant in Stoke-on-Trent has been evicted after years of persistent anti-social behaviour and excessive noise.
Stoke-on-Trent council served a formal notice for eviction proceedings to the tenant living at Matthews Walk, in Hanley, last year following complaints from neighbours.
Alongside the disturbances, the council said vandalism was evident on internal walls, doors had been damaged with holes, and even a section of the ceiling had been pulled down.
Cllr Majid Khan, cabinet member for safe and resilient communities at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "We know this specific case has been going on over a significant period of time, and we thank the residents who persevered and helped us to gather evidence to finally get the individual evicted.

"We know these things can take time through the formal routes and we want to reassure our residents that we are committed to using every legal route available to address anti-social behaviour.
"This eviction sends a clear message - disruptive and damaging behaviour will not be tolerated."
The case was heard in court on 7 January 2025, with the formal eviction completed on 17 March 2025 and evidence from local residents to the council's antisocial behaviour team played a key role in securing the eviction.
Cllr Khan added: "If you continue to communicate with us and tell us of any problems in your area, we will take action.
"Our priority remains ensuring that everyone can live in a cleaner, greener, and safer community."
Stoke-on-Trent City Council were approached for comment on what happened to the tenant after they left Matthews Walk.
