A popular snooker and pool club in Stoke-on-Trent is planning to extend into a neighbouring building to meet demand from members.

Longton Snooker and Pool Club has been running for 40 years and has seen its membership grow over the decades, as well as hosting a national university pool competition last year and several charity events.

Currently there are more than 2,000 members, including two who have previously represented England internationally at pool. And the club is looking to increase its facilities by changing the use of a building in Chadwick Street, next to its current home at Normacot Road.

A planning statement submitted as part of the change of use application to Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "The leisure and sports facility is currently unable to meet the demand of its existing members and expansion is required to meet this sustained demand rather than lose users who are unable to utilise the facility. The proposed expansion of this venue would also be suitable to host international events for the home nations in male and female pool competitions, therefore making this a destination leisure and sports facility on the international stage.

The club currently has over 2,000 members, including two who have represented England internationally (Nub News).

"Unit 7 is privately owned with a current tenancy agreement in place that commenced in June 2023 for a period of 10 years. The current tenant has found this building not to be suitable for their purposes and they are actively seeking alternative accommodation.

"Permitting this change of use application will allow the current tenant to exit their tenancy at no cost and find alternative accommodation that suits their needs whilst ensuring the unit remains tenanted and occupied. It is proposed to extend the leisure and sports facility into the existing building by forming new openings through the separating wall to form access.

"The existing building will accommodate a further seven pool tables, food preparation area and associated office space. A further area for four or five dart boards will be accommodated here also."
