The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Hanley, is set to benefit from a £5 million investment following a successful application for the Cultural Development Fund.

This initiative, funded by Arts Council England, will allow Stoke-on-Trent City Council to deliver a series of plans, outlined in The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery Development Prospectus, which was announced in December 2022.

The proposal will look to extend existing gallery space, allowing more room to display the city's nationally designated collections in a contemporary architectural space.

The funding will allow existing gallery space to be expanded (Sarah Garner).

This funding will complement the project to relocate the City's Archives from City Central Library to the Museum later this year.

Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure, and public health said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have secured £5 million from the Arts Council's Cultural Development Fund and to see continued investment into our great city by Arts Council England.

"This will allow Stoke-on-Trent City Council to deliver our ambitious vision for The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, which includes a wrap-around ground floor extension that will improve accessibility.

"We are really excited to see our next phase of plans delivered at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery following the £5.4 Million pound extension which showcases our much loved Spitfire in a hanger style extension that can be viewed by the public 24/7."

The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery also recently opened their brand-new Spitfire Gallery (Sarah Garner).
