Staffordshire Police has issued a warning after urban explorers were filming inside an abandoned town hall in Stoke-on-Trent.

Last week a video circulated on social media showing two men who had entered Hanley Town Hall 'through a window' before clambering over the interior ceiling on the ground floor to gain access to the building.

The video shows the two men touring the office spaces and courtrooms inside the building while the intruder alarm was sounding for around ten minutes, before they exited the building via a ground-floor fire exit after hearing distant sirens.

Hanley Town Hall, on Albion Street, closed in 2020 and Staffordshire Police says the building 'is not a safe place for anybody to enter at this time.'

Stoke-on-Trent North local policing team Commander, Laura Davies, said: "We would like to remind people that whilst we would not discourage people from exploring the city, entering derelict or abandoned buildings can be extremely dangerous.

"Many derelict buildings are unstable, with unsafe floors, electrical works and other hazards. This could lead to serious injury or death.

"Whilst the people inside Hanley Town Hall were not injured and got out again safely, there could have easily been a different outcome."
