A police cordon remains in place this afternoon (13 June) on Tower Square and Forster Street in Tunstall after a toddler was hit by 'a lorry' in a hit-and-run.

Police and paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the town centre at around midday following reports that a lorry had "collided with a woman and two young children".

Paramedics treated a boy on Hose Street and he has been taken to the Royal Stoke "as a precaution" and the ambulance service says his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Staffordshire Police says the lorry driver did not stay at the scene following the collision and the force has now launched an investigation into the incident. The cordon will remain in place while officers continue to make enquiries.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Tunstall at 11.56am, one ambulance attended the scene.

"On arrival, ambulance staff discovered a pedestrian on Hose Street who had been involved in a collision with a lorry. Crews were told this is nearby where the incident took place.

"The patient, a male toddler, was assessed and treated on the scene for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital as a precaution."

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers were called to the junction of Forster Street and Tower Square in Tunstall, at 12.10pm today (Friday 13 June), following reports that a lorry had collided with a woman and two young children who were on foot.

"We went to the scene with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. One of the children was assessed for injuries that are believed to be minor. The child has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The driver of the lorry did not stay at the scene."
