A man was arrested by police after customers witnessed a 'drunken' row inside a Stoke-on-Trent pub.

A video circulated online showing the altercation between a customer and a member of security staff at The Reginald Mitchell Wetherspoon pub in Hanley on Monday (8 September) at 11am.

The video shows a customer arguing with a member of security behind the bar before being pushed out. Moments later, a man can be seen hurling a chair at the bouncer, who caught it and threw it straight back at the customer as he was leaving.

JD Wetherspoon has said the actions of the bouncer were "appropriate in the circumstances".

Now Staffordshire Police has confirmed a 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was issued with an adult restorative disposal, out of court.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the Reginald Mitchell pub, Parliament Row, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, at 11.05am on Monday (8 September) following reports of public order offences.

"A man reportedly threatened security at the site after being asked to leave and threw a chair at a security guard.

"A 56-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was issued with an adult restorative disposal in relation to the offence."

A JD Wetherspoon spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident at The Reginald Mitchell which arose when a customer was asked to leave the pub by a door supervisor after he went behind the bar.

"The customer became aggressive while being escorted from the premises.

"We believe that the actions of the door supervisor were appropriate in the circumstances."
