Plans have been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council to expand the YMCA facilities in Hanley to provide 'additional facilities'.

The applicant is seeking permission from the council to build a side and rear extension to the existing building.

Edinburgh House, on Harding Road, is currently in multi-purpose use with offices, community facilities and living accommodation all provided by YMCA North Staffordshire.

This comes after plans for an "attractive and modern" extension to the building were approved last month.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application states: "The proposal intends to create a flexible and vibrant multi purpose facility for YMCA NS, that caters for the varying needs of the users and employees.

"The proposals include for new Youth Facilities (including Art, Life Skills and a Digital / Multimedia Zone) along with accompanying additional office and training facilities to offer facilities and services to young people in need in the local community."

"The proposals are not considered to be out of context or character within the area and are a good reutilisation of an existing site with good design and use of space to provide additional much needed facilities to the YMCA."

A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months.
