Stoke-on-Trent City Council has granted permission for an "attractive and modern" extension to Hanley's YMCA facilities.

The applicant, Mrs Richards, submitted an application in April 2023 for a two-storey extension to the YMCA facilities on Harding Road in Hanley.

The site is currently in multi-purpose use with offices, community facilities and living accommodation all provided by the YMCA North Staffordshire.

The proposals include new Youth Facilities (including Art, Life Skills and a Digital Zone) along with additional office and training facilities and services for young people in need in the local community.

The ground floor will have an arts and crafts room, IT room, library, gym and internet cafe whilst the first floor will have a plant room, meeting space and kitchens.

The extension will include training facilities and services for young people in need (Nub News).

No more parking spaces are proposed, but two more full-time staff will be employed as a result of the extension.

The officers report states: "Whilst this part of the site is concealed to the rear of the site and less noticeable from the main public domain, the extension achieves its goal in providing a modern facility for all users which is of an attractive, modern design and will replace a somewhat dilapidated structure."

Permission was granted on Monday (31 July) for the plans to go ahead.
