Plans to demolish former nightclub in Stoke-on-Trent approved
Plans to demolish a former Stoke-on-Trent nightclub and replace it with a block of 56 flats have been approved by the local council.
LPW Development UK Ltd applied for permission to knock down the former Chicago Rock Cafe, in Hanley, and build a six-storey building in its place, with ground floor commercial units and five floors of flats.
But the iconic Art Deco foyer of the old Odeon cinema on the corner of Foundry Street and Trinity Street will be retained.
The residential units will consist of six studios, 45 one-bedroom apartments and five two-bedroom apartments.
Nineteen parking spaces would be provided on the lower ground floor, with vehicular access off Lower Foundry Street. Communal amenity space will be provided through the creation of a roof terrace at first floor level.
These plans were approved on 13 September, three years after plans for the scheme were first submitted.
An Officer's Report published last week says: "The overall proposal, has been subject to ongoing detailed discussions with the Local Planning Authority which began at pre-application stage, and it is considered that the scheme now proposes a development which is considered to conform with the aims and objectives of the NPPF, as well as local and regional policies set out within the Core Spatial Strategy and Urban Design Guidance (SPD). The application is therefore recommended for approval, subject to conditions."
The applicant has also been ordered to make a financial contribution of £21,712 towards local health infrastructure.
