Plans for a new hand-painted mural in a Stoke-on-Trent town centre have been submitted to the local council.

The mural, which will be 10m by 7m, will showcase local brand, Belstaff, and be painted on the site of 3 Uttoxeter Road, Longton.

A Statement of Significance, submitted as part of the application, states: "The proposed works do not intend to permanently change the building fabric.

Belstaff was founded in 1924 and had a factory on Caroline Street in Longton (Mode Architects & Development).

"The artwork relates to a relevant and prominent local business with historic connections to the city, and in particular the local area.

"The colour palette for the artwork has been carefully chosen by the artist and designers. Muted tones are proposed to work in harmony with the existing building fabric."

Belstaff, founded in 1924 by Eli Belovitch and his son-in-law Harry Grosberg, is a garment manufacturer best knowing for producing high-performance waterproof jackets.

The mural would be ten metres high and seven metres wide (Nub News).

The company had two Staffordshire factories, one on Caroline Street, Longton, and another in Silverdale.

Although, the company was affected by the textile crisis of the 1990s and both factories subsequently closed.

Belstaff now has stores in Manchester, London, Glasgow and New York.
