Plans to transform a vacant building on Tunstall High Street into a new shop and three flats have been scrapped.

Lymer Holding Ltd applied for permission for a "change of use to retail and one self-contained flat to ground floor and two self-contained flats to upper floor together with single storey-rear extension" at 261 High Street, earlier this month.

This week, the application was withdrawn by Lymer Holding Ltd, meaning no further action will be taken.

261 High Street was formerly occupied by an insurance brokers but is currently vacant and in a poor condition.

A Design and Access Statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "To the front of the ground floor, the area that is currently a shop will stay as it is, with the additional of WC and kitchen facilities.

The building was formerly occupied by an insurance brokers but is currently vacant (Google).

"To the rear of the ground floor, there will be a studio flat comprising of an open plan kitchen/living area, a double bedroom and a shower room. A single-storey extension will be added to the ground floor to create space for the kitchen and shower room for the studio flat.

"To the first floor, there will be a communal landing. The first floor flat would comprise of a hallway, open plan kitchen/living area, double bedroom, single bedroom and shower room.

"To the second floor, there will be a communal landing. The second floor flat will comprise of a hallway, open plan kitchen/living area, double bedroom, single bedroom and shower room."

Only one comment was submitted on the application before it was withdrawn from Highways, who said: "There are concerns if these spaces are usable as there does not appear to be adequate room to manoeuvre. The access also provides poor pedestrian visibility. The applicant will need to demonstrate that each space usable."
