Plans for 14 brand-new bungalows on a vacant former school site in Stoke-on-Trent have been rejected by the local council.

Marychurch Church of England Primary School, on Piggott Grove in Bucknall, closed in June 2004 and was demolished in 2022.

Mr Stephen Beaumont, of D B Developments, applied for permission in July to build 14 detached bungalows on the 8,155 square meter site.

Eight of the houses were going to be two-bedroom and the remaining six would have been three-bedroom.

This week, the plans were refused by planning officers at Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

A local property developer had applied for permission in July to build 14 detached bungalows on the vacant site (Nub News).

The Officer's Report, published on Wednesday 22 November, stated: "The proposals would result in multiple private amenity areas which are sub-standard by virtue of their limited size, accessibility, and usability.

"Additionally, the bungalow proposed on plot 10 has a poor and unacceptable relationship with the existing property directly to its rear (23 Sorrel Grove) by virtue of its very close proximity to the two storey building.

"This close proximity would result in an overbearing and oppressive relationship between the two properties, and poor outlook for future occupiers of the proposed dwelling."
