Plans for a new drive-thru coffee shop in Stoke-on-Trent have been revived with a fresh planning application submitted to the city council.

Previous plans to transform the former Lidl in Longton into a coffee shop were refused last year due to concerns in relation to the servicing arrangements and location of a refuse store.

The new proposals, submitted by Metalcraft Projects Ltd, no longer involve the part demolition of the existing building and the location of the refuse store has been revised.

A Planning Statement, submitted as part of the application, says: "The current application proposals involve the installation of new shopfronts and associated works to facilitate the delivery of a drive thru' coffee shop.

A site plan reveals that Starbucks are intending to use the unit (Image via planning application).

"The proposed drive thru' coffee shop unit will occupy Unit A and will have a gross floor area of 172 sq.m. The unit will be occupied by one of the main national operators within this sector and will generate a number of job opportunities across a range of roles with flexible shift patterns offered, with the identified operator offering training and career development opportunities, as well as a number of employee benefits, including discount schemes; pension plans; employee assistance and incentive schemes available to all staff.

"End operators have not yet been identified for Units B & C, however, at this stage it is anticipated that they are likely to accommodate a national retail or restaurant operators.

"The proposed 16-bay charging hub will operate 24/7 and will serve business and personal users in the local area, including customers of the proposed retail / commercial units and wider town centre, as well as providing en-route charging facilities for passing traffic on the surrounding highway network."

The full planning application can be viewed here.
