Plans for a new private burial ground at an Islamic Centre in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, have been withdrawn.

Darbar Unique Centre, on Oldfield Street, wanted to create 30 new burial plots and another singular plot to the north of the site.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: "As a charitable organisation, the Darbar Unique's mission statement is to provide burial spaces for a limited number of devotees who attend and practise the Muslim religion and have a spiritual/Sufism link to the Darbar Unique Centre. Based on the current number of devotees around the UK, there is a requirement for up to 30 burial plots for members of the Darbar Unique Centre.

"There is currently no designated religious burial space at the Darbar Unique Centre for devotees, thus they are often buried within the areas they reside. The proposed development provides a designated burial space which will allow devotees to have a more religious burial as they have a spiritual connection which is personal to the devotees and will ensure loved ones can visit during their usual visit to the centre at its usual opening times.

The planning application has been withdrawn so no further action will be taken (Nub News).

"As part of the overall burial plots the need for a shrine for the Religious Minster in required which will require a dedicated plot located at the front of the centre. The Darbar Unique Centre will not be open for public burial of the Muslim faith as there are specific designated places within the city for this, namely the Fenton Cemetery which is located nearby."

No objections were received but the application was withdrawn by the applicant so no further action will be taken.
