Pupils at a Stoke-on-Trent primary school "enjoy learning and typically approach their work with positive attitudes" according to a recent Ofsted report.

The report, published on 20 July, found that pupils at Ash Green Primary Academy in Trentham "feel included, valued and listened to" and leave the school as "confident, respectful and well-prepared individuals."

The school achieved "strong standards" for personal development and wellbeing, while meeting "expected standards" for achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, and leadership and governance.

The safeguarding standards were also met.

Inspectors highlighted the school's "comprehensive and well-planned programme for personal development" as a strong point.

The report states: "The school promotes character development effectively.

"Pupils take on a wide range of leadership roles, such as art ambassadors, reading heroes and wider roles across the trust. They speak proudly about their contributions."

Inspectors also noted that pupils' behaviour across the school was "calm and respectful".

The report states: "Leaders have ensured that a well-sequenced and progressive curriculum is in place across all subjects. Teachers deliver this curriculum well in most lessons."

It adds: "Leaders and staff understand pupils' individual circumstances and backgrounds well."

Inspectors also found that "the school has a clear and ambitious vision that is shared and understood by all leaders" and noted that "governance at all levels is effective".

When describing what it is like to be a pupil at the school, the inspectors said: "Leaders and staff recognise each pupil as an individual and create a highly supportive and nurturing environment.

"All pupils access a rich range of opportunities that enhance their experience of school"

As 'next steps', the inspectors recommended that leaders "ensure greater consistency in the teaching of writing and mathematics across the school by refining adaptive teaching and in-the-moment assessment".

The inspectors added that "leaders should continue to build on the positive learning culture by further promoting consistently high levels of pupil engagement" and "ensure that, in the early years, staff consistently maximise opportunities for purposeful, high-quality interactions, accelerating progress for all children."
