A Stoke-on-Trent secondary school was found to be "passionate about pupils leaving the school ready for their next steps" at their latest Ofsted inspection.

The recently published report from a February inspection found that at Trentham Academy, in Trentham, "teachers and pupils build warm, respectful relationships" and "pupils are well prepared for life after school".

The school achieved "strong standards" for inclusion and personal development and wellbeing, while meeting "expected standards" for achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching and leadership and governance.

The safeguarding standards were also met.

The report states: "The school's programme for pupils' personal development is considered, coherent and extensive."

It adds: "Leaders see pupils' character development as high priority.

"They are passionate about pupils leaving the school ready for their next steps, both academically and personally."

The inspectors also found that leaders at the school take a "diligent approach to inclusion".

Inspectors found that pupils "achieve well" at Trentham Academy and noted that their attainment and progress is in line with national averages.

The report also states: "Staff have high expectations of pupils' behaviour and engagement in lessons. Pupils behave well in lessons.

"They settle to tasks well and demonstrate positive attitudes. Pupils and staff agree that in-lesson disruption is rare so that everyone can get on with their work."

The inspector also explained that the school leaders have continued to improve the school over time and added: "School staff feel a sense of camaraderie and are proud to work at the school.

"They feel cared for. The school's investment in professional learning develops staff effectively and enhances their confidence."

As the 'next steps', the inspectors recommended: "Leaders should continue to improve pupils' achievement, particularly narrowing the gap between disadvantaged pupils' achievement and that of their non-disadvantaged peers."

Trentham Academy has been approached for comment.
