A tenant who was causing anti-social behaviour has been evicted in a serious crack-down by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Since August 2023, the council has responded to numerous complaints from the public about a property on Metcalfe Road, Tunstall, housing stolen goods and causing anti-social behaviour.

The council took legal action and was granted possession last month at court.

Supported with intel from Staffordshire Police, the council served a notice to terminate the defendant's introductory tenancy, under the Housing Act 1996 s127.

Supported by Staffordshire Police, the tenant has now been evicted by the council (Staffordshire Police).

Councillor David Williams, cabinet member for community safety and resilience, said: "Living in a council property is a privilege and it will never be acceptable for a tenant to make the lives of those who live nearby a misery.

"Everybody should be able to feel safe in their local area and we are committed to ensuring that we tackle any type of anti-social behaviour swiftly and successfully with our partners.

"Where there is evidence we will continue to take action like this and I would like to thank those residents who provided CCTV footage and recorded noise levels for this case.

"We are on a mission to reclaim our streets and build a safer, stronger and more confident city for everyone. An ever-closer partnership approach which brings together the council, partner agencies and our local communities shows that together we can tackle the root causes of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour."
