A new trading card shop officially opened in Kidsgrove over the weekend.

Trading Cards Land on Liverpool Road, Kidsgrove, opened on Saturday 11 July, stocking a range of popular trading cards including Pokémon, Magic the Gathering, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece and Topps.

This will mark the third business in the local area opened by Mike Stanier, who also runs Blue Collar Records on Butt Lane and the Victoria Tap Room in Kidsgrove.

Mike, who first began selling trading cards on the playground when he was at school, said: "It has always been a massive interest of mine and as I've got older, it's kind of nostalgic as well.

"It takes you back to a time when you were younger, which is quite nice."

The decision to open Trading Cards Land came after Mike began selling cards at Blue Collar Records – which opened just over a year ago in April 2025.

Mike, who is from Burslem, added: "I started selling some [trading cards] in here and then I got that much stock, I thought 'I'm going to have to do something about this'.

"It was kind of taking up a lot of room so I thought, 'well, why not just open a shop?'"

He also owed his ability to open another shop so soon to the loyalty of his local customers adding: "I've built up like a really nice customer base and they've been fantastic."

The businessman hopes that Trading Cards Land will be more than just a shop, providing a safe space for people to trade cards and share their hobby with likeminded people.

"I want this to be a space where people can come and feel safe, relaxed and just forget about everything, battle and rip packs open," Mike added.

The shop will have space for people to sit and enjoy the refreshments that are also on offer.

Mike also hopes to host evening events such as quizzes, swap shops and tournaments in the future.

"I am really passionate about Kidsgrove," Mike added.

"I think it's got a great community spirit, and I think the shop is going to add something to the town."
