A man has been charged with attempted murder and other offences after police responded to reports that a woman was assaulted in a Newcastle-under-Lyme shop.

Luke Mamczur, 24, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been charged with attempted murder, committing an offence with the intention of committing a sexual offence and possession of a sharp pointed article in a public place.

Staffordshire Police said officers responded to a report of an assault at Poundland on the High Street at around 5.35pm on Friday (10 July)

The victim, a woman, was taken to hospital but was discharged.

Mamczur is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Monday 13 July).
