A new Asda Express in Stoke-on-Trent is finally set to open - over a year since construction first started.

The store, on Stoke Road in Shelton where CMC Motorcycles was previously based, is set to open within a four-week period from late October onwards, along with 20 other locations across England.

Asda has spent £750,000 on work to convert the old motorcycle garage ready for the launch and it is expected to create between 25 and 30 new jobs.

The 24-hour store also won the right to sell alcohol between 6am and midnight, seven days a week, in June 2024.

David Lepley, chief supply chain officer, said: "We're thrilled to kick off the next phase of our Express rollout and bring our heritage in delivering outstanding value to more locations across the UK.

"In just three years, we've grown from zero convenience stores to establishing a major presence in the channel, with almost 500 stores by the end of the year.

"This continued investment reflects the confidence we have in our convenience strategy and our focus on bringing Asda's low prices to more local communities."

The announcement for the Stoke Road store opening comes after the £29 million works on Station Road were completed.
