It's been confirmed 16 former Royal Stafford workers were given jobs from 10 March in Stoke-on-Trent under the factory's new owners.

TG Green & Co, owners of Cornishware, acquired Royal Stafford's machinery and factory in Burslem but the brand says it is looking for a 'more suitable' site in the Stoke area due to the condition of the building.

More than 70 workers were axed in February when the manufacturer collapsed and the 16 former Royal Stafford workers now employed at the factory started on 10 March, according to the new owners.

In a statement, TG Green & Co directors, Charles and Rebecca Rickards, said: "Cornishware has acquired all the machinery previously owned by Royal Stafford, ensuring that these valuable tools of the trade continue to be used for British pottery.

"More importantly, we are delighted to welcome 16 former Royal Stafford employees to the Cornishware team, where they will continue their craft from Monday 10 March.

"Going forward, we will continue to manufacture biscuit ware in Stoke-on-Trent at the current Royal Stafford site.

"However, due to the age and condition of the building, we will in time relocate to a newer, more suitable site in the Stoke area.

"Keeping a base in Stoke allows us to remain close to our key suppliers, maintain better control over quality and logistics, and tap into the wealth of expertise that the Potteries are renowned for."

TG Green & Co is a former customer of Royal Stafford with the factory playing an integral role of forming pieces before they are decorated, fettled, glazed, and glost fired in the West Country.

The Cornishware brand has faced supply chain issues since the collapse of the Burslem-based firm but it now anticipates stock availability will improve following the acquisition.

The statement added: "We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our customers for your continued support and to warmly welcome our new team members in Stoke.

"We're excited about this new chapter and remain as committed as ever to keeping British pottery alive and thriving."
