Road markings to be reinstated around problematic Stoke-on-Trent junction
A problematic road junction in Stoke-on-Trent is finally getting sorted following intervention from the local councillor. Residents have been warning for years that it's only a matter of time before a serious accident happens.
Now the road markings around The Square and Woodville Road in Meir are being addressed. Senior engineers from Stoke-on-Trent City Council along with Cabinet Member for Transport, Infrastructure and Regeneration, Finlay Gordon-McCusker are said to be fully in support.
Some work has already taken place with the rest due imminently. Local resident Robert Lee, a former top engineer said: "This road is extremely dangerous in my opinion. There should be a stop and give way sign.
"Somebody is going to get killed and I don't want to wait for that. The solution for me, when I came into this property 14 years ago, is to make Woodville Road a one-way street."
Residents say there have been several near misses and accidents over the years. Additionally, due to the narrow street and it being on a bus route there have been several altercations as cars have been unable to manoeuvre out of the street.
Stoke-on-Trent South MP, Allison Gardner has also been out to inspect the site and talk to residents about their concerns.
Ward Councillor Lauren Davison said: "I have been working with the Senior Engineer in the Highways team to address the fading road markings in The Square/Woodville Road in Meir North. I was pleased to welcome a team from the Council to the junction, to see the issues firsthand.
"The road markings are currently being planned to be reinstated. Myself and the Senior Engineer are in regular contact and I will be getting a confirmed date for works in the coming week.
"Thank you to the residents who highlighted this issue. The safety of residents and road users is paramount, and I am pleased this will be resolved in due course."
