A brand-new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub could open on a busy road in Stoke-on-Trent, if plans are approved by the city council.
Allego Charging Limited has submitted a planning application for "change of use to electric vehicle charging hub with associated equipment".
The application site, on Uttoxeter Road, Longton, is currently an area of hardstanding used as a car park for a car dealership.
A Design and Access Statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "The proposed use is for an electric vehicle charging station and would provide no.12 charging bays, facilitated by no.6 alpitronic HYC150 chargers.
"The proposal is also for the erection of a substation with electrical cabinet and feeder pillar to house the necessary components needed for the charging bays as well as erecting no.4 low level streetlights.
"Parking at the EV charging stations is indicated with markings, and provides no.12 large charging spaces. The large size of the bays allows for disabled access and larger vehicles."
Founded in 2013, Allego operates over 40,000 charging points throughout Europe, powered by 100% renewable energy.
A Statement of Significance claims: "The proposal will positively improve and enhance the overall appearance of the area while also providing a sustainable approach to reduce carbon emissions."
A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months; the full planning application can be viewed here.
